Probably THE no-brainer “mod” that can be done to Cadillac CTS-V2s is to install the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . The ZL1 (and later, the Gen-F HSV GTS) uses the same LSA engine as my car, and is rated at 580bhp as opposed to mine’s 556bhp. A s far as anyone can tell, that “lid” was the only difference. The taller “lid” has a bigger and more rigid intercooler “brick” inside, lowers intake air temperature and is also much smoother inside.
First, I went to my dealership’s parts department to order the lid, then take it to the shop that did my exhaust to install it:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
B ut then I thought I could take care of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! at the same time. Makes sense to me, as the dealership’s technician would have to take off the lid... to change the supercharger... but then instead of installing my old lid, why not just put the new one on?
Since the job is kinda “special”, I asked the parts guy to recommend me a service advisor that might be able to help me out (since I know that if I just approach a random advisor, I’d probably get nowhere) . He gave me a name, and also a print-out of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of the part I bought, so I can show the advisor.
Then I went downstairs. The advisor gave me a cocked-head look for a split second, but then nodded and said something to the effect of “I know what you want to do, but we’ve never done this before, so let me get together with the tech and we’ll give it a shot ”.
So they did... and it is done!
The hood needed to be cut in order to clear the more squared-off lid. Probably the only reason why GM didn’t just put these lids on all CTS-V2s after the Camaro5 ZL1 debuted. That, and probably not wanting to tick off the early adopters?
Parts and labour list:
Camaro5 ZL1 supercharger lid, bought from dealer
LSA supercharger, warrantied by GM
Labour to remove the original supercharger lid + supercharger, warrantied by GM
Labour to install the ZL1 lid, partly “warrantied” by GM ;-)
The dealership charged me an extra hour of labour plus a few bucks for the extra hoses needed (for the CTS-V2, the coolant lines ran from the back, while for the Camaro5 ZL1 the lines came from the front as you can see in the pictures), which I gladly paid for

Thought it was funny you noted the partly warrantied new ZL1 Lid. Did they give you anymore info as to what would actually be covered?
I have done a similar transaction with a manufacturer dealer albeit with an upgraded clutch setup and not a supercharger (that would have been awesome) . They wouldn’t warranty the work but it was the better, cheaper route to go anyway.

To clarify: I bought and paid for the ZL1 lid. GM paid for the labour to remove my old lid -> remove the old supercharger -> install the new supercharger -> install my “old lid”... which the dealer finangled to install my new ZL1 lid instead.
Some extra labour was required... to cut the hood and re-route the coolant lines... so I got charged for an hour of labour plus for the hoses. All in all I paid ~$200 for the whole job that took overnight (drop off in early afternoon, pick up late next morning).
So, probably similar to what you’ve done, actually. At least, it made sense to me when I suggested it and we all seemed happy in the end ;-)

That’s a pretty ugly hole.

Definitely the type of customer service I can get behind.
Now that I think of it, I might have seen this replacement done on RPM’s Youtube channel but they are a performance shop so it falls more in line. Were you hearing the noise described in the bulletin over that sweet, sweet exhaust ?

You mean the “marbles”? It was there for at least a year before the exhaust. So, the last couple of weeks were really exciting times for my car as I got all these things out of the way ;-)
Here is a good write-up:
http://hooniverse.com/2012/08/01/the-rattling-sounds-of-the-cadillac-cts-v-supercharger/
I took delivery in late March 2013, so the 4yrs bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired. The powertrain warranty is 6yrs, though, and so I still have that coverage. Additionally, I got the GM Protection Plan for 6yrs, also upon delivery.
Though, all those protection were moot in this case, because GM’s service bulletin for this issue covers the supercharger for TEN YEARS. So I still have almost 5yrs left on that one :-P

Yeah, as you can see from the PDF, it was either to cut the hood or to mill the lid.
The running joke to the forum n00bs that ask for what to do, is to tell them to ask the shop to...
...lower the engine by 1in.
Which is obviously impossible, but it is always fun to see their reaction when they realise that :-P
I will either eventually replace the hood with an aftermarket one that provides more clearance, or have a shop cut the hood open and then install a heat extraction scoop in that area.

Since you don’t see it with the hood shut I’d probably do nothing.
